The 6 Best Things About Being A Mom

That "OMG" moment
(when I realized I was a Mom of two!)

1) I finally have something in common with my Mom. I don't know about your relationship with your Mom but for me and mine... Let's put it this way, we've had our differences. Since I've had kids there has always been something we connect on. She loves to give me advice and I love to ignore it. But I know her heart is in the right place, and I love her for it.

2) I can blame most stains and my lax housekeeping on the progeny.  Martha does not live here. So when people come to visit the toys, laundry and mysterious wetness can easily be explained by the little cherubs being underfoot. As far at the coffee stains on my jacket, well I will take partial blame for that.

3) There are at least 2 people in the world who think it's 1/2 normal to dance and sing whenever one is stuck at a red light. I know I have my eccentricities and car dancing is one of them. However as far as K-dog, and Princess-A know, I am perfectly normal. I'm sure I'll embarrass them one day but until then, "Pump up the Jams".

Mom's (I mean the kids') sandbox
4) I almost always have crayons & Clif bars in my purse. I'm not known for being the most organized person in the world, but I've had to get it together a bit for my little ones. The thing is, I love art supplies, and who doesn't need a snack form time to time. Being a Mom means having the magic purse that seems to always produce a wipey, granola, or distraction when needed. Even if I'm the one who needs it.

5)  I get to design  sandboxes. I love learning to use my creativity in new ways. I mean, I never knew how many pop song could be turned into potty training ditties. My children stretch my imagination every day.  The sandbox was just the first, I'm wishing for a fairy fort and hopefully they'll let me sit in with the garage band from time to time.

6) My kids! Pardon me for saying so, but I have the best little ones that anyone could hope for. Mysterious wetness, the mommy wars and sleep deprivation aside they bring enormous joy to my life. I wouldn't be who I am without them.

Those Potty Training Songs

*sung to the tune of Coppa Cabanna*
His name was K-dog
he pooped in the potty
'cause pooping in the potty is doing what you oughtta
no more diapers
he poops in the pot-teeee
potties for poopies
we fell in love!

For all of you who loved 'copa' to the tune of "The Gambler"

You've got to know when to hold it
know when to flush it
know when to walk to da potty
know when to run
you never do your flushin'
while you're sittin' on the potty
there's time enough for flushin'
when the pee'in's done

Yes this means we are officially onto training DD. Wish me luck

Wash the Dishes

Little ones love bubble's! Especially our little girl.

Even if it is a bit wet and messy.

it's totally worth it.

My only regret: why didn't I think if this 'Wash the Dishes' game before I had already washed all the dishes. Well that's just one VERY clean sippy.

Season of Photography Challence Week One: Back to School

Fall is upon us and with so much going on, I want to keep up my postings and when I saw CrunchyVTMommy was hosing a photo prompt, I decided to jump right in. This weeks assignment is "Back to School", and every fall for the past three years I've taken a picture of my son on the first day of school. I shared them last week in my Wordless Wednesday post. It's a tradition. I thought about submitting one of these this week, but then there was a snap shot of my daughter I took moments later. She was so upset not to be going to school with her brother. So I handed her my camera to look at the pictures, and I got a smile.  I think we both missed him terribly that day. She asked for him about a million times. I hope they remain so close.

Join the challenge here on Kimberly Gauthier's photography site, or here at CrunchVTMommy's Blog , I can't wait to see all of the wonderful photographs.

First Day

Today was my sweet girl's first day of school. Well, it was her 'cubby day' so I was actually around for most of the morning. She seem a little unsure for just a moment, maybe a little quiet (for her) at first, but that didn't last.  A bowl of oats, and a few songs and she was getting into the swing of it. At recess she caught up with K., but only played with him for a few minuets. We already know several of the other children because they are our friends kids, and they are my older son's classmates. Not to mention A's naturally outgoing personality. So by the time noon rolled around she was absorbed in play and clearly didn't want to go!

I've always though the point of childhood is to grow out of it. Thank heavens, DS was an easy baby but not A.. She NEVER took a bottle from anyone, rashed up from disposable diapers and was what I call, "sitter resistant" (read 105 Db blood curling cries).  So Until about 15 months,  I was on baby-house-arrest.  Alas It ALL goes by so fast, even the house-arrest parts. Now she's heading out in the world and making her own friends.  K went through all this too but he was not ever so clingy in the first place, or maybe it was that we had a new baby at the time, but it didn't shake me so. Usually at every milestone I tell myself, "Well, its not like s/he's packing for Stanford, it's just XYZ." Every one says, you just blink, and they will be moving out. When they do pack up and launch I'm going to want them to go.

There were some tears as I left the classroom for the hour of no-mommy adjustment, but they were mine. Which got me totally off guard, because I am so happy to see her growing. I don't want her to stay a baby, and, well she isn't.

Sandbox: Part 2

(look here for Saturday's start)
It was coming together very nicely on Sunday ...

... Until  Stalled by 6 hrs ER visit: 2" of durabond, a late night for everyone, a quick clean up, a very sorry DS & an extension of our construction schedule. But It looks like DD cut will heal ok, and shes not holding a grudge.

On the porch

On the porch
Sunlit but mostly shade
Wind and winds' chime
She sleeps, head tilted
Resting in stroller strap
I drink coffee and list chores
But they can wait

Dummies

How old-school do I feel. Adeola HATES car rides and usually we just
avoid them, but we'llbe visiting family that lives *gasp* in the
suburb's so I think we may be I'm the car a while. There will also be
an airplane as well. We don't usually don't even give her "dummies"
so I don't know which will agree with her. If anyone wants to know
this represents more than $20 modern, BPA-free, PVC-free, natural
rubber or silcone, orthodontic, pre-teething faux nipple design! So
new that most were not on the market just 30 months ago when Kiran was
born! I think if it was entirely up to me I'd just skip the car rides.

Baby Sister

First I'll anounce her:

Adeola Skye Vernette Patterson-Tanski
Born 5-27. @2:51
8 lbs 8.5 oz and 20.75

It was a really quick labor, we actually were a little surprised that
we didn't have her in the car! I'll post that story from my computer
some time soon.

Our big brother us trying to adjust to the new person in the house,
and I think couriosity is still beating resentment. But he informed
his swim class mates that, "baby sisters cry too much"

The 4th, the Festival, and more work than I can handle

I don't have too many photo's from the this years Great Blue Heron Festival, because I took tons of video and not so many stills.
But I'll share them with who ever actually does read my little blog-y-poo. We had so much fun, I was so sorry when it was over.
The weather couldn't have been nicer.
Our friends came too, so the little boys got to play together.
There was tons of terrific music and lots of stuff for the kids to do, including riding behind a tractor, playing in hay, sand box, pond swimming, dancing, and singing along as well.
We drank a little beer, ate some camping and festival foods too.
I didn't' make it to the all night dance tent but that's hard to do when you've got a toddler who still doesn't sleep the night just yet.
Besides even with my after noon nap I just couldn't stay up all night. maybe in years to come. its alright I got to dance just plenty. :)

So now back to the real world I have more work than I can handle and hot summer days just do not motivate a girl to do work! (house work or architecture.) Why can't i just get paid to be my fabulous self? I did get up and go out to a meeting yesterday. I really enjoyed being all showered and lip-glossed. I love the music festivals, with all the barefoot dirty hippies, but ultimately I like wearing heels and jewelry. I should get Kiran up from his nap now.
